This new film from award-winning Argentinean director Pablo Trapero (Born and Bred, Lion’s Den) starring Ricardo Darín (The Secret In Their Eyes, Nine Queens) examines the countries appalling road safety record. Each year around 8,000 people die and more than 120,000 are injured in road accidents.
Darín plays Sosa, an ambulance-chasing lawyer who scours the accidents and emergency wings of hospitals and police stations seeking clients. Although supposedly working for a charity that aids victims, it is, in fact the front for a shady law firm out to secure a slice of the victim’s families compensation.
One day, while staking out the scene of an auto wreck, Sosa meets young doctor, Luján (Martina Gusman). Despite her seemingly noble line of work, she has demons of her own, including a drug habit. She finds herself attracted to the morally conflicted lawyer, even after he helps to arrange for an accident for the benefit of a friend.
Together they are two damaged souls who try and find some semblance of normality in the other.
